Plain truth
Vitaminwater was on sale at my local grocery store this week, which made me wonder whether anybody really needs that much of the stuff. The major player in the market, Glaceau - maker of Vitaminwater, Smartwater and Vitaminwater Zero - sold 142 million cases in the United States in 2009, according to John Sicher, editor of Beverage Digest.

Flowering beauty
Created specially for Asian skin, Pure Beauty's whitening skin care contains a white flower complex of rose, lotus and freesia to nourish and de-stress the skin.

Sea solution
Iodine-rich seaweed has been used for over three decades to smooth and repair skin. But, as the real thing can be smelly and unobtainable, Voya's organic seaweed

Spots be gone
If you catch melanin before it can fully develop, your skin won't have time to develop hyper-pigmentation and dark spots. Biotherm's White D-Tox range contains a patented Bright-Cell complex to reduce melanin production and cut its flow to the skin surface.

Get into the groove
My first reaction on opening the press kit for MAC's In The Groove collection was: "Huh?" Blues, purples and deep pinks aren't what you expect in the days of barely-there neutral make-up colors.

Hot agony of the feet
This time of year, the heat is blistering. Literally. Because high temperatures and oppressive humidity make you sweat more, your feet are likely to get wet when you're walking, jogging or hiking. That moisture isn't just uncomfortable; it's also the source of friction.

Almost barefoot
The first time Escapade Sports brought Vibram FiveFingers to Hong Kong, its entire stock was sold out by the first week. At first glance, it is unlike any shoe you've seen before as it is shaped like actual feet, complete with toes.

Beach babe
Sea water can give your hair that desirable tousled look but for those of us cubicle rats who don't have time for a day at the beach, there is Toni&Guy's Beach Curl Spray (HK$88 for 200ml). Sea minerals add volume and movement to hair, resulting in looser curls for beach- effect disheveled waves.

Know your SPF
Higher sun protection factors frequently cost more, but are they worth it? Many dermatologists don't think so. "Once you get to SPF 50, it's really getting silly," said dermatologist James Spencer.

Built-in protection
The amount of clothing many of us wear in summer is, understandably, inverse to the temperature. Matters of decency aside, that might not be a problem if we wore enough sunscreen, but most don't. Just 18 percent of adults in the United States slather up before they go outdoors, according to a sunscreen study by Neutrogena this year, and just 48 percent reapply sunscreen when they are exercising or swimming outside, even though many dermatologists recommend reapplication every two hours.

Party lips
First there was Dazzleglass. Now, mac has upped the bling factor with Superglass (HK$150). Triple-faceted snowflake-shaped helicone pearls in the lip gloss give it extra dazzle.
